Areas is now hiring a Staff Accountant based out of our corporate office. The staff accountant position is accountable for monitoring the progress of projects, investigating variances, approving expenses, and ensuring that project billings are issued to customers and payments collected. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments.
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts and prepares related journal entries.
  • Review reconciliations to ensure that they are prepared properly and follow-up on any unusual items.
  • Maintains and balances an automated consolidation system by inputting data; scheduling required jobs; verifying data.
  • Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports; verifying information.
  • Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accounts.
  • Prepares payments by accruing expenses; assigning account numbers; requesting disbursements; reconciling accounts.
  • Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes.
  • Answers accounting and financial questions (internally & external parties) by researching and interpreting data.
  • Provides accounting support for joint ventures by reviewing financial information; converting data to general ledger system; obtaining supplementary information for preparing financial statements.
  • Protects organization's assets by keeping information confidential.
  • Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related tasks as needed.
  • Assists with annual audit.

Job Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent plus 5 years of accounting experience.
2. Thorough knowledge of general accounting including thorough skills knowledge plus the application of general accounting theory.
3. Must be proficient in MS word, Excel, and Power Point software programs.
4. Broad conceptual judgment, initiative and ability to deal with complex accounting issues.
5. Must have excellent reporting skills.
6. Must be deadline-oriented with great time management skills.
7. An attention to detail is a must.
8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
